About Joshua

Why Run for Office?

Joshua Sroge believes in pragmatism, not politics.  His family’s passion for Louisville is what brings him to run for public office. They love this city, its people, culture, open spaces, wildlife, Old Town, schools, and vibrant commercial areas. Joshua seeks to bring his hard work ethic, community volunteer spirit, and deep economic and business expertise to the next stage in his career arc - serving in your City Council. Collaborating across all the aisles of public discourse is a core value, as no matter our affiliation, all of our voices stitch the fabric of life in our towns, cities, states, and country. As your elected representative, Joshua will listen to your voices and work tirelessly to bring the best out of Louisville.

Joshua will self-fund his campaign - no donors, no special interests. He is also going to donate his City Council salary to local nonprofits, and will post the monthly donations to this website.

Background

Joshua is a native of New York City, having grown up in the Bronx in the 70s and 80s, then escaping to Boulder County in 1995. He’s lived in Louisville for 20 years.

He lives with his wife Cappra, a Colorado native who grew up in Edgewater and Carter Lake. Cappra has worked for IBM since 1997. They live with Remy, their Yorkie, and you may see them walking every morning along Spruce to downtown. Please say hello when you see them! Their daughter Sally is a physical therapist and lives in Washington DC with her fiancé Margaret and their cat Babios. Sally attended LES, LMS, and MoHi, and we miss the Coach Hook era of girls basketball. Go ‘Yotes!

Joshua has worked for as long as he can remember, initially as a babysitter and then at the counter of the nearby dry cleaner starting at age 14. There is barely a job he hasn’t had: moving man, lifeguard, mailroom gofer, ice cream scooper, member of Union 32BJ as a porter and doorman in buildings, lumberyard hand, nightclub bouncer, camp counselor, State Senator student admin, and many more he cannot remember.

When Joshua left NYC in 1995, he had been working at a classical music agency, starting in the mailroom and ending as the financial controller and tour manager. Once in Colorado, he worked for many storied Boulder County companies, such as Kryptonics here in Louisville, back when Dillon and 96th was a single laned 4-way stop sign intersection. He also worked at Access Graphics, Spatial Corp, and Image Guided Tech. All four of these companies were acquired, and he moved to renewable tech around the time he moved back to Louisville in 2006, and spent nearly 10 years in Golden working on a biomass-to-energy startup that collaborated with the nearby National Renewable Energy Lab.

In 2014 he joined Firestone CFO, a local fractional finance and accounting firm, which he now owns. Firestone’s 12 consultants work across many small businesses in the Front Range. In 2017 he joined a Denver cryptocurrency startup and has also been working in that industry continuously since then, helping companies with tax and audit readiness as well as compliance and regulatory affairs.

Currently he is CFO of The HBAR Foundation, which provides grant funding for early stage technology to leverage the Hedera platform, the greenest of all digital asset technologies, and specifically has a $100m fund for sustainability initiatives and carbon credit enablement out of its $550m seed funding.

Joshua’s parents were both career non-profit executives, and he believes deeply in giving to the local community. He has been a mentor to CU Business School Leed students since 2012, and serves on various industry boards and associations. His most impactful local long-term volunteering has been with the Emergency Family Assistance Association (“EFAA”). He started out on the EFAA Finance Committee in 2013 and later joined their Board for 7 years, and was President of the Board in 2021/22, and continues to serve on two committees to this day. EFAA owns a property in Louisville on Garfield Avenue, and during his tenure EFAA retired the mortgage, ensuring that it can serve the community long into the future.
